Marcel Mouly (French, 1918-2008) “La Cafetiere Rouge” (The Red Coffee Maker) An original color lithograph, hand signed in the lower right margin and numbered (48/150) by the artist in pencil in the lower left margin. The image measures 13 x 17 inches, and with matting and 2-inch frame, the work of art is 25 x 29.5 inches. Note the use of bold, brilliant, luminous primary colors in this cubist and abstract still-life work featuring a blue vase with yellow flowers and a red coffee pot sitting atop a small table set against wide vertical lines of color.
Mouly was a painter and lithographer known for his colorful, abstract works. He was influenced by fauvism, cubism, Picasso, Matisse, and Braque. He was the last living student of Picasso and a protégé of Fernand Leger. Subjects frequently found in his body of work include still-lifes, interior scenes, landscapes, and sailboats.
