Alvar (b. 1935, Spain) aka Alvar Sunol Munoz-Ramos, “Mon Village” (circa 1970’s) Limited-edition (350) color lithograph, hand-signed in the lower left and designated E.A. (Epreuve d'Artiste, the French term for artist's proof) in pencil in the lower right. The 8 x 11.5-inch work of art has been mounted, matted, and placed in a black wood frame measuring 15 x 19 inches. Featured is a (female?) figure’s face apparently floating in space and overlooking the skyline of a seemingly weightless Mediterranean village.
Alvar is a master of mediums, including oil paintings, graphite drawings, watercolors, ceramics, sculptures, murals, monuments, and hand-made lithographs. His works have been presented by over 40 museums (exhibitions and permanent collections) and over 95 galleries throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia. He produced his first original lithographs for a one-man show at Gallery Drouant in 1963. Recognized for his surreal, mystical imagery and his lyrical subjects, Alvar is a master colorist who blends breathtaking variations of tone into his pieces that give his artwork a special softness.
