Frank Gallo (1933-2019, American) “Flowers in Her Hair” (circa 1970’s). Limited edition serigraph in colors, hand-signed by the artist in pencil in the lower right and designated A/P in the lower left of the image (A/P is artist’s proof; there are also 250 in the regular edition) and with the embossed seal of the publisher, Circle Fine Art, in the lower left edge beneath the matting. The work of art is unframed, but the 38 x 25-inch sheet has been matted in a color-coordinated shade of green. Depicted is an example of Gallo’s mildly erotic theme: Featured is the upper part of a seated woman smiling and looking downward, with her mid-section exposed and wearing only a dark pink cropped bra top. She has flowing blue hair cascading over and down her shrugged shoulders. Above her hair are many colorful flowers and green vines are hanging down on both sides of her body.
Note that there is light staining, discoloration, and silverfish damage on recto, toning on verso, a few soft handling creases; otherwise, the piece is in apparently good condition.
Gallo was an artist, teacher, and sculptor who worked primarily with the human form, as an expression of his interest in the beauty of the female figure. Examples of his work are in the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington, D.C. and the Los Angeles County Art Museum.
