Bernard Buffet (1928 - 1999, France) - "Laennec" - Rare and vintage color lithograph on linen paper by the acclaimed Expressionist. This work of art is signed in the stone and measures 11 7/8" x 8 13/16," with frame and matting, it is 20" x 20." It is in very good condition. Dr. Rene Laennec was the inventor of the stethoscope. The original, classic image of 'Laennec' was created in 1965 using gouache, India ink and wax crayon on paper.
Bernard Buffet was a French Expressionist painter. Best known for his representational work, Buffet's paintings are often figurative, graphic, and central in their compositions. He was a highly-mannered and specific artist whose works are immediately recognizable. He had an extremely prolific career, painting over 8,000 works and garnering widespread popularity and acclaim, including dozens of international exhibitions and honors such as being inducted into the Académie des Beaux-Arts in 1974. The artist took his own life after a prolonged battle with Parkinson’s disease on October 4, 1999 in France at the age of 71.
