(After) Banksy (b. 1974, England) “Di-Faced Tenner” – Offset lithograph reproduction on paper measuring 3 x 5.5 inches encased in a clear Perspex acrylic photo frame block that allows for the double sided display of both sides of this parody version of the 10 pound British note. It measures 5 x 7 x 1/2 inches. The display case's stand measures 2 inches in depth. The title ‘Di-Faced’ is a play on the word ‘deface.” The ‘bill’ is stamped with Banksy’s signature imprimee on the reverse.
Originally created in 2004 as a prank, Banksy printed and released 1 million pounds of these counterfeit 10 British pound notes. He did that by dropping a suitcase full of the fake currency at the Liverpool tube station in London during rush hour as well as at festivals in Notting Hill and Reading. Features of Banksy’s bill include the replacement of Queen Elizabeth’s image with that of the late Princess Diana; the image of Charles Darwin depicted on the reverse, inscriptions reading ‘Trust No One’, ‘Banksy of England’, and ‘I promise to pay the bearer on demand the ultimate price’.
