Born Andrew Warhola, the talented and influential 20th century artist was a founder and major player in the Pop Art movement. He pioneered the development of the process of photo-mechanical silkscreen and is known for his paintings of commercial and iconic images, including the Campbell’s Soup Cans, Flowers, and celebrities such as Marilyn Monroe.
The Sunday B. Morning Story: In 1970, after Andy Warhol had published the famous 1960’s screen prints of Marilyn Monroe, Flowers and Campbell’s Soup Cans (referred to as the ‘Factory Editions’ printed by his NYC studio known as “The Factory”), he began collaborating with two friends from Belgium to create a second series of mass produced prints. They agreed to stamp the new works on the verso, "published by Sunday B. Morning" and "fill in your own signature” with Warhol telling people to sign their name to the artwork, “ …Because yours is as important as my own.” In fact, Warhol had provided to the Belgians the photo negatives and the color codes he had used to produce the Factory Edition prints. Therefore, the new prints appeared identical because they were created with the same tools and methods Warhol had used for the original Factory Edition pieces. Although Warhol came to regret this choice, to this day, Sunday B Morning is still publishing these iconic prints.
