Rene Gruau (1909 – 2004; New York, France, Italy) “Bistro” (1989-1990) Hand-signed, limited edition color lithograph. The sheet size is 28.5-in. x 21-in. and with matting and wood frame, it measures 39 x 27 inches. Pencil signed by the artist in the lower right and numbered '75/300' in pencil in the lower left with blind stamps of publisher, Circle Fine Arts, on on deckle-edged Arches paper. Gruau’s artwork and fashion illustrations are classic and timeless with elegance, style, and vivid colors, particularly, blacks, reds, and yellows. This image of a scene on a café terrace may have been created for the April 1950 Paris issue of the short-lived, but renowned and lavish “Flair” magazine. (At the very least, the mystery woman’s red, white, and blue hair bow is featured on the cover! See blue photo.)
