Edward Ben Avram [b. 1937 or 1941(?); India/Israel] “Jerusalem Arches” (circa 1970’s) A unique work in watercolor on paper. The 19.75 x 14-inch painting has been matted and placed in a simple 24.25 x 18.25-inch frame. The work of art is signed by the artist in both Hebrew and English letter in the lower left. Ben Avram was born in Bombay, India and immigrated to Israel during his teenage years. He studied at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design. Working in light, creamy tones to paint watercolors and gouaches, he focuses primarily on the city of Jerusalem: its ancient gates, alleys, narrow streets, and of course, the Western Wall. He also does landscapes and seascapes along the Mediterranean Sea as well as religious festivals and Bible stories incorporating symbols such as doves, Shabbat candles, and menorahs.
