Edward Ben Avram [b. 1941; India/Israeli] “Archway in Jerusalem” (circa 1970’s) A unique work in watercolor on paper. The sheet measures 19.75 x 6.75 inches and has been mounted, matted and placed in a 29 x 11-inch wood frame. The painting is signed by the artist in both Hebrew and English letter in the lower left. Featured in this work of art are people and buildings on a narrow street viewed from under one of the many archways in the ancient city. Provenance: Michael Hittleman Gallery Los Angeles.
Ben Avram was born in Bombay, India and immigrated to Israel during his teenage years. He studied at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design. Working in light, creamy tones to paint watercolors and gouaches, he focuses primarily on the city of Jerusalem: its ancient gates, alleys, narrow streets, and of course, the Western Wall. He also does landscapes and seascapes along the Mediterranean Sea as well as religious festivals and Bible stories incorporating symbols such as doves, Shabbat candles, and menorahs.
