Irving Amen (1918 – 2011, American) “To Life #2” – Limited-edition color woodcut print on paper by the New York City/American born Jewish artist. Pencil signed, titled, and numbered 22/200, the image measures 17 x 12 inches and with color-coordinated mat and frame, the work of art measures 30.25 x 24.25 inches. (There are other slightly different versions and editions in various sizes.) Featured is a boy holding a bird; rendered in bold black outlines accented with oranges and yellows.
In addition to sculpture and painting, Irving Amen was a master printmaker who produced thousands of woodcuts, etchings, lithographs, and serigraphs. Religious and Biblical images, children, and birds are among the various common themes of Amen’s work. Many of his pieces may be found in prominent collections and museums both domestically and internationally.
