Mr. Brainwash (b. Thierry Guetta, 1966, France) “Kate Moss (Multiple)” (circa 2008-2010) Plate-signed offset lithograph depicts four images of the supermodel and cover girl. Featured are four identical photos of her face in pop art style, some in black and white, some tinted; set against a graffiti background. The 6 x 4-inch image is surrounded by metallic gold mat and has been placed in a black wood frame measuring 14 x 11 inches. The work of art is plate-signed vertically in the lower right side of the image.
Mr. Brainwash infuses his art with social commentary and blends images of famous people of the past with cultural symbols of today. Other famous portraits by the artist have included those of Einstein, John Lennon, Mohammed Ali, Madonna, Charlie Chaplin, and Bob Dylan, among others. Mr. Brainwash is based in Los Angeles, with exhibits of his work displayed throughout the world. He came to prominence through mounting large-scale public projects in his current home of Los Angeles and as the main figure in the Banksy-directed film, “Exit Through the Gift Shop”. MBW has been known to take and alter copyrighted images from history, popular culture, and art history, making them his own.
